An investigation is underway into a video showing an Assembly candidate allegedly stealing mail

As we approach the week until the 2024 presidential election, Police Scotland continues to investigate this moviewhich appears to depict GOP Assembly candidate Joe Mastroianni stealing his opponent’s mail and replacing it with his own.

The video was released to the media Wednesday by the Schenectady Democratic Party, to which Mastroianni chose to address his response to reporters Wednesday evening, refusing to answer questions about the video that is currently receiving national attention. Lawyer from Tully Rinkeyunrelated to the case, tells CBS6 that if it’s just one incident, prosecutors may not want to aggressively bring charges, but if they find it happened on multiple occasions, a felony charge could be on the cards. We asked what this process looks like now.

“Law enforcement must do their due diligence. They need to investigate. You know, of course it’s on video. It seems like it’s pretty simple and straightforward, but, you know, they have to contact the assistant U.S. attorneys or the district attorneys, wherever this is going to be brought, and see how, look, this is something you want to pursue.”

Mastroianni’s opponent, incumbent Angelo Santabarbara, said the actions shown were beneath the dignity of a holder of public office. Some Republicans supported Mastroianni, but there were also some who did not called him withdraw from the race.
