Lily Peters’ case will continue in Chippewa County

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – The case of the teenager accused of killing Lily Peters in 2022 is now pending in Chippewa County Court.

Court records show that a notice was filed on Friday, meaning the case returned to the trial court.

According to Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell, the court will schedule the case for arraignment, which is the day the suspect, who is now 16, pleads guilty or not guilty to the charges.

In September 2024, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals ruled that the teenage boy charged in the death of Lily Peters would be tried in adult court. The court found that the defense had not proven, by transferring the case to juvenile court, that the seriousness of the crime would not be diminished.

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and sexual assault in connection with the 2022 murder of Peters, who was just 10 years old. She was reported missing on the night of April 24, 2022. The next morning her body was found in the forest near her home in Chippewa Falls.
