One injured in accident with pipes carrying trailer on US 60

Eastbound U.S. 60 at Ironwood Drive was closed Monday afternoon due to an accident involving fallen pipes.

Department of Public Safety officials say a heavy pickup truck with a pipe trailer was traveling westbound on U.S. 60 when it merged into eastbound traffic.

According to reports, the trailer overturned and spilled pipes onto the road. DPS claims that the trailer flew across the median and hit a passenger car. Only the driver of the vehicle was inside, and he was taken to hospital in critical condition.

It is unclear whether the driver of the pickup truck was injured.

Eastbound traffic was closed but has since reopened.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
