The inquest into Newfane’s death has identified the deceased couple

NEWFANE, Vt. (myCV) – The identities of two people found dead on Friday in a house in Newfane have been established and their autopsies have been completed.

The Burlington Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified Helen Prescott, 88, and Blake Prescott, 91. Helen died from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, and Blake similarly died after being shot once in the chest. While Helen’s death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner ruled Blake’s death a suicide.

Relatives reported the incident to police on Friday after the couple was found dead in their home on South Wardsboro Road. Investigators initially believed it was an isolated incident and that everyone involved had been “accounted for.”

The Prescott family told police that Blake and Helen “shared love and devotion throughout their lives.”

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
