Affidavit says Lacy Lakeview man tried to choke girl who bravely defended him

LACY LAKEVIEW, Texas (KWTX) According to the statement, Charmist Hays, 60, was charged with assault/domestic violence by strangulation after he assaulted his then-girlfriend by strangulation in July 2024.

The affidavit states that on July 10, Lacy Lakeview police responded to the apartment building in the 4300 block of Meyers Lane around 12:03 a.m. to investigate an assault.

The affidavit said the victim, identified as Hays’ girlfriend, was “crying, shaking and having difficulty speaking.”

Officers learned that Hays and the victim initially got into a verbal argument before Hays began attacking her, pushing her onto the couch and choking her.

According to the affidavit, that’s when Hays began taunting the victim, telling her, “You’ll never forget this.” According to the police statement, the man also threatened to kill her.

According to the document, the victim tried to kick Hays, which resulted in Hays choking her more severely, to the point where she could not breathe and began to feel weak.

Hays then pulled the victim off the couch and onto the floor by her legs, but she managed to pull him away from her by “grabbing him by his private part,” the affidavit said.

Hays fled the scene when the woman called for help.

He was arrested on October 25 and is currently being held in the McLennan County Jail on $8,000 bail.
