The NFL trade deadline is in a week.

Coach Sean McVay last week the buzz that the Rams would deal the star has all but died down Cooper Kupp — especially considering the Rams are on a two-game winning streak and are in a good position to potentially win the NFC West.

However, on November 5, the Rams could still be on the market as a buyer or seller.

McVay confirmed the veteran cornerback on Monday Tre’Davious White and its representatives were given permission to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

The Rams signed the 29-year-old White with the belief that the former All-Pro could bounce back from Achilles tendon surgery and help them in some role this season. White seemed to recover faster than expected, and after the Rams were additionally hit by an injury during training camp, he started the first four games.

White struggled to regain his form, however, and with cornerback Darious Williams returning from injured reserve and the Rams looking for reinforcements in the secondary, White was inactive for the final three games.

McVay praised White for the way he conducted himself as a leader and mentor.

“The guy wants to be able to compete,” McVay said during a video conference with reporters, “and I understand that – he’s a great player in this league. … It just didn’t go the way any of us would have liked up to that point.

“In fairness to him, he played a lot more snaps than we expected because of the injuries there.”

So the Rams are giving White “a chance to see if there’s a better situation that he feels is right for him,” McVay said.

“But we love him here,” he said, “and if he stays here, I’ll certainly be happy about it.”

Inside linebacker is another position that could come into play before the trade deadline.

Before 30-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, the Rams placed starter Troy Reeder on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

Freshman Omar Speights started the game and made four tackles. Christian Rozeboom tied the team-high with six tackles, and Jacob Hummel also played. The Rams added linebacker Tony Fields II to the practice squad on Monday.

How aggressive the Rams will be at the trade deadline can be determined by their performance on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in Seattle.

“Those things can change dramatically or quickly the closer you get to that deadline,” McVay said.

For the first time since Rams coaches prepared for the season opener in Detroit, they can game plan for the Seahawks knowing that star players Kupp and Nacua knocks both will be part of the crime.

Prior to the game against the Vikings, Kupp was scheduled to return from an ankle injury, but Nacui’s ability to return from his knee injury was uncertain. They both played and stimulated the whole team.

Kupp caught five passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. Nacua caught seven passes for 106 yards.

McVay praised receivers coach Eric Yarber and assistant Nate Scheelhaase for managing the “pitch count” for Kupp, Nacui and the other receivers.

Demarcus Robinson, who caught two touchdown passes, played on 61 of the Rams’ 72 plays. Kupp played 42, Nacua 41, Tyler Johnson 27, Tutu Atwell nine and Xavier Smith four.

Rookie Jordan Whittington was inactive for the second straight game with a shoulder injury. His status for the game against the Seahawks has not been determined.

“We need to address some positive issues right now, especially around the receiving room and being able to get some of our players healthy and ready to go,” McVay said.

McVay said offensive lineman Joe Noteboom, who is recovering from an ankle injury, could return this week, but offensive linemen Steve Avila and Jonah Jackson and backup John Johnson III remain on injured reserve.

“I don’t know if I foresee their status changing,” McVay said.
