Police are yet to interrogate jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, accused of murdering Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, who was killed on October 9, despite claims that Gurpreet was killed on his orders. Even three weeks after committing the crime, the police have not yet located the perpetrators.

Gurpreet, a member of the Waris Punjab De, was shot dead by four bike-borne attackers while he was returning from the Gurdwara.

On October 18, DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav stated that Gurpreet was murdered on the orders of Amritpal. The police also claimed that terrorist Arshdeep Singh alias Arsh Dalla was the mastermind.

A four-member SIT team, headed by Faridkot SP (Investigation) Jasmeet Singh, is probing the murder case. Three members of the Arsh Dalla gang – Bilaal Ahmed, Guramardeep Singh and Arshdeep Singh – who were conducting reconnaissance, were arrested and interrogated. On Saturday, they were taken into judicial custody. Despite interrogation, the SIT did not identify the shooters.

Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police Pragya Jain said the police had fresh leads on the whereabouts of the shooters and they would be arrested soon. “We will question Amritpal soon,” she added.

Amritpal is lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).
