Winnebago Co. police car was struck during an accident investigation

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – No deputies were injured after a vehicle struck a Winnebago County Sheriff’s cruiser Monday night.

Investigators say the crash occurred near the intersection of Latham Rd. and Illinois Route 2 as authorities were on the scene of another crash involving a motorcycle and a deer.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office said the motorcyclist’s injuries were not life-threatening.

There is no information on the driver’s injuries or whether any charges will be filed. Illinois State Police are investigating.

Northbound lanes of Illinois Route 2 at Latham Rd. are closed from 9 p.m. on Monday. It is unknown when the lanes will reopen.
