The New York Islanders return to action and start another back-to-back set when they take on the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night before completing the set in Columbus on Wednesday.

The Islanders want to bounce back after Saturday’s 6-3 loss to the Florida Panthers. Dennis Cholowski, Kyle Palmieri and Brock Nelson scored 11:41 into the game to quickly take a 3-0 lead, but the Panthers battled back and scored six unanswered goals in the victory.

“We started strong, but we knew they were going to have a strong offense,” Scott Mayfield said. “We needed a better response, we have to be better.”

The Islanders had two days without games, taking advantage of Monday morning practice at the Northwell Health Ice Center before a four-game, six-day series that began with Tuesday’s game against the Ducks.

“We had a productive day and intense training. It was a good hour,” MacLean said. “We have to be ready to go tomorrow and we want to turn things around a little bit and start putting together a few wins.”

On Sunday night, the Ducks lost 6-2 to the New Jersey Devils in the second half of another set. Former Islander Ryan Strome had two points in the loss (1G, 1A), and James Reimer made 28 of 34 saves in his second start of the season.

Last season, the Islanders tied with the Ducks 2-0-0. The Islanders have won the season for three straight years, defeating the Ducks 31-11 in their last six games.
