Volleyball coach arrested in Tamil Nadu for assaulting a student

A volleyball coach in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, was arrested on Monday for assaulting a student during a tournament on October 23. The incident, which was recorded and spread on social media, resulted in immediate action being taken against the coach.

Accused V. Thiyagarajan, 38, from Hosur, was employed in a private school. Preliminary investigation revealed that the tournament was held at a private school near Bagalur and people from several schools participated. A teacher from the host school informed Thiyagarajan that a girl from his team had stolen her watch. As a result, both the coach and the teacher reprimanded the student in front of his teammates. An officer of Bagalur police station observed, “Thiyagarajan then physically assaulted the girl.”

After the footage of the attack was published, the police launched an investigation. They later discovered that the girl had not stolen the watch; she actually found him on the ground and detained him. Following this discovery, Thiyagarajan was arrested and sent to judicial custody at Salem Central Jail, where a case was filed against him.
