Springboks brought in Hendrikse from flyhalf for injured prop in touring squad

South Africa were forced to change their squad for November’s internationals and took the opportunity to strengthen another area of selection by drafting Jordan Hendrikse into the reserve team following an injury to mainstay Frans Malherbe.

Hendrikse joins scrumhalf brother Jaden in Rassi Erasmus’ squad, with the former playing his only test in June’s 41-13 victory over Wales in London.

Two-time World Cup winner Handre Pollard and Manie Libbok are the other specialist fly teams on the tour.

“Jordan plays very well for the Sharks in the United Rugby Championship and is a Springbok in the national team, so he knows our structures,” Erasmus said.

“As the UK and South Africa are in similar time zones, it would be easy to call on another prop if the need arose during the tour.”

The Springboks will play Scotland at Murrayfield on November 10, England at Twickenham six days later and Wales at Princeity Stadium on November 23.
