Vermilion husband charged in connection with wife’s suicide

VERMILION, Ohio (WOIO) – A Vermilion husband has been charged with several criminal charges in connection with the suicide of his 81-year-old wife.

According to Vermilion Police Chief Chris Hartung, on September 29, officers went to the home of Michael and Maria Krupienski asking for a report of a suicide.

When officers arrived, they found Maria dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Chief Hartung said that while under the influence of alcohol, Maria was apparently suicidal and Michael gave her a loaded gun.

Michael Krupieński, 71, was charged with manslaughter, murder, tampering with evidence and possession of a weapon while disabled.

He is being held without bond in the Erie County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned on November 26.

The judge also ordered him not to contact any family members.

The national suicide prevention hotline is 988 and trained counselors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
