Two people were taken to hospital after a mob attacked outside a high school

Two people were injured and a car was damaged following a fight after school in the Ballston area yesterday.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Washington Blvd and N. Stafford Street, near the Washington-Liberty High School football field.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the male victim was standing on the sidewalk when five suspects approached him and engaged in conversation before stealing his ski mask and walking away,” Arlington County Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage tells ARLnow.

“The victim and the second victim confronted the suspects and a physical altercation occurred,” Savage continued. “The suspects, described as teenagers, fled the scene. The victims were transported to an area hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening. As a result of the altercation, property damage to the vehicle was reported.”

Initial information shows that one of the victims suffered a serious knee injury.

Following the altercation, WL principal Tony Hall sent the following email to families, noting that students at the school were involved in the fight.

Good evening to the WL families,

A fight involving several students broke out near the N. Stafford St intersection after school. and Washington Blvd, which was witnessed by several students and parents. Arlington County police and fire departments were called to help. As a result of the fight, there were bodily injuries and material damage to the parked car. Affected students will be disciplined in accordance with the APS Student Code of Conduct and will be referred to law enforcement.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Savage said.
