Grange Hospital: Employee claims harassment allegations are trumped up

The patient told police that Crump asked her if the last person she slept with was a boy or a girl.

Prosecutor Matthew Roberts said: “This was someone you had a sexual interest in.”

“No,” Mr. Crump replied.

Roberts said the patient was so upset that she wanted to leave before the medical registrar visited her, and then ran to her mother.

The head of the court, a patient, told police she remembered being touched intimately by Mr Crump, who was not wearing gloves.

“Your hands were shaking. She asked if everything was okay. You said you had too much caffeine,” Roberts said.

– Have you ever said that?

Mr. Crump replied, “No.”

The court heard that on his day off, Mr Crump put up “no trespassing” signs in rooms on the ward – an idea he said he got from other departments in the hospital.

The rooms in the ward have doors with metal roller blinds that can be lowered if the patient needs privacy during intimate examinations and procedures.

“There was no need for signs,” Roberts said. “Nobody said, ‘Ieuan, please give me signs.’

“Was this to enhance the dignity of patient care or to avoid harassment?

“You took full advantage, that’s true.”

Mr. Crump replied, “No.”

The process continues.
