At approximately 7:39 a.m. in Carpentersville, two semi-trucks crashed on Route 31 near Miller Road.

The driver of a Freightliner truck hauling sand was traveling east on Miller Road approaching Route 31, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

Meanwhile, the driver of Mack’s semi-truck was traveling south on Route 31.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of a Freightliner semi-trailer allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign to wait for vehicles to pass through the intersection.

It was not possible to stop in time and both trailers crashed at the intersection.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of the Freightliner trailer was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the cab. The Freightliner driver died at the scene.

Mack’s semi ended up in a field east of Route 31 in Illinois. The 60-year-old Streamwood driver was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Route 31 was closed between Lincoln Avenue and Longmeadow Parkway as of 8:30 a.m.
