A suspect is in custody after shooting two men in west Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZ family) – The police report that a suspect has been arrested in connection with approx fatal shooting of two men earlier this week in west Phoenix.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Monday, Phoenix police responded to reports of a shooting nearby 67th and Highland Avenue and arrived to find two men with gunshot wounds. Both people were pronounced dead at the scene.

They were identified as 34-year-old Jose Carlos Jimenez and 21-year-old Marquez Anthony Demarcus Booker.

The suspect fled before officers arrived.

Homicide detectives later identified the suspect as 20-year-old Jessie James Olvera, and police say they tracked him to a home in the area Aleja 73 and Sanna Street in Peoria. Investigators say he was finally arrested Monday evening after the barricade situation.

According to police, Olvera made incriminating statements when questioned by detectives. He was later jailed on charges including two counts of second-degree murder.

Details about the events leading up to the shooting have not been released.
