The city of Eau Claire is hosting the candidate forum

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – The city of Eau Claire has provided community members with the opportunity to connect with political candidates. This afternoon, the city hosted multi-racial candidates from the Chippewa Valley to speak and meet with voters.

93rd Assembly District candidates Democrat Christian Phelps and Republican James Rolbiecki were in attendance. Phelps discussed raising the minimum wage and funding municipalities and public schools from state surpluses. Rolbiecki said it’s critical to bring “the right stakeholders to the table” when considering anything from housing to public safety.

Phelps says the budget would be top of his list of top priorities: “The state’s biennial budget will be done shortly after the new term is sworn in, so my priority is to make sure it’s as good as it can be. I want him to invest in our community. I want to see these funds invested in public schools, invested in children, increase special education reimbursements and catch up with inflation.”

Rolbiecki says communication is key: “My plan is clear. You know, I’ve said it many times. I’ll say it again. You know, for me it’s a party with people. And making sure that everyone has representation, all our issues are reported and discussed there. You know that? We don’t just say it, we do it.”

District 31 State Senator Jeff Smith, District 23 State Senator Jesse James, 92II Assembly District candidate Democrat Joe Plouff and the 91st Districtstreet Incumbent Assembly District Democrat Jodi Emerson also attended the candidate forum.
