WorkSafeBC is investigating a crane incident in East Vancouver

WorkSafeBC has launched an investigation into an incident involving a crane in East Vancouver on Tuesday morning.

A brief statement released by WorkSafeBC said the agency was notified of the incident at 1000 East Hastings Street around 10:45 a.m.

“WorkSafeBC has launched an investigation. We have no further information to provide at this time,” he said.

A social media post circulating online said the crane dropped its load after the sling holding it broke. It is not written from what height the load fell.

The photos attached to the post show large, industrial, metal strips on the ground. Some are located next to a busy road, between traffic bollards and a work truck, while others are on the ground within workplace barriers.

The event adds to a growing number of crane incidents in Metro Vancouver and is the second this month.

October 3 WorkSafeBC investigated an incident at the Oakridge Park estate at the intersection of West 41st Avenue and Cambie Street, the same location where just seven months earlier, a 41-year-old woman died in a crane accident.
