Brooklyn man sentenced to 10 years in prison for subway assault

Brooklyn, New York – A Brooklyn man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for attacking a stranger on the subway with a kitchen knife and then repeatedly kicking him. The attack occurred after an exchange of words during which the victim asked the attacker to lower his voice.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the sentence for 33-year-old Sadam Adames of Brownsville. On Monday, Adames received his sentence from Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Heidi Cesare. Last month, he was convicted of attempted first-degree assault after a jury trial.

The incident occurred on September 13, 2022 at approximately 12:40 a.m. on the No. 2 train traveling through Brooklyn. Adames, who was shouting obscenities into his phone, was asked to be quiet by a 49-year-old passenger, which led to a violent argument.

Adames tried to stab the victim in the stomach, but during the struggle he stabbed him in the back. The victim fell to the floor after being thrown onto the seats, where he was kicked multiple times in the face. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene and he was taken to Methodist Hospital for further care.
