Students warm their hearts and bodies with a donation to the Cornerstone Rescue Mission

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – On Tuesday morning, students and staff at St. Patrick’s Middle and High Schools. Thomas More High and Middle and St. Thomas Elementary Schools. Elizabeth Seaton provided winter clothing to the Cornerstone Rescue Mission.

For the past six years, schools have been collecting clothing and money to purchase needed items after Cornerstone contacted the foundation about working together.

“We usually give people three weeks’ notice and designate one day for – we call it a ‘convenient day for a good cause’ so that you can donate at least about $3 and that money will go towards everything, and we have about three weeks during which you can just donate long johns or socks,” said Sloane Keszler, student body president at St. Thomas More.

Keszler added that she likes to give back to the community, which Thomas O’Meara from St. Thomas High School agreed. Thomas More.

“It’s good to know that you’re giving the things you take for granted and giving it to other people who need it more. It just feels good to do it,” O’Meara said.

Operations manager at Cornerstone Rescue Mission, Matthew Hower, said it was as much for the children as it was for the organization.

“Whenever we need help, our entire community is always there. The kids have a great time, they teach others valuable life skills, communication, organizing events and things like that. It was nice to see student representatives from each group,” Hower said.

If you would like to donate winter items to the Cornerstone Rescue Mission, you can drop them off at the front door at 30 Main Street or at the thrift store at 401 11th Street.
