Balochistan Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani also condemned the attack, calling for increased security in sensitive development zones. Security has since been tightened as authorities continue efforts to identify the attackers, who reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack.

The incident highlights continuing security challenges in Balochistan, raising serious concerns about the protection of workers working on development projects in the province. Panjgur is considered one of the most sensitive districts of Balochistan.

The incident came more than two weeks after the death of 20 workers in Balochistan’s Duki district. The workers were miners working in nearby coal mines.

On this occasion, unidentified armed men attacked the mines of a local coal company. According to the district authorities, the attackers used heavy weapons during the storming of the mines, including hand grenades and rocket launchers.

Duki district chairman Haji Khairullah Nasir said the attackers targeted coal mines, shooting workers and setting mining equipment on fire.

He stated that the police and the Border Corps were informed about the attack, but no security personnel arrived at the scene.

Police officers reported that armed people gathered workers into groups and opened fire on them. Duki SHO Humayun Khan Nasir confirmed that 17 bodies have been shifted to the civil hospital and more are being shifted.

Among the dead, two were from Afghanistan, three from Pishin, one from Kuchlak, four from Killa Saifullah, three from Zhob and another from Loralai. All the dead and injured workers were Pashtuns.
