Makes Captain Son and Odobert miss the home match against City

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min is returning to fitness but will miss Wednesday’s home League Cup match against Manchester City along with the injured Wilson Odobert, manager Ange Postecoglou said on Tuesday.

Son, who suffered hamstring pain after scoring in a 4-1 win over West Ham United earlier this month, was ruled out of last week’s Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar and then missed Sunday’s 1-0 Premier League defeat at Crystal Palace .

Odobert, who has been sidelined for more than a month with a hamstring injury, returned as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Alkmaar, but Postecoglou said the winger suffered a major setback “in the same area”.

“Son is almost in good shape, but probably from our perspective we will aim for the weekend. We are sure he will be in good shape for the weekend,” Postecoglou told reporters.

“The only other rider to miss the race, which is a bit disappointing, is Wilson, who suffered a setback during the week and it appears to be a serious one, so we’re just waiting for more information.

“Everything has been fine since the weekend and Djed (Spence) is back in training.”

Spurs, who had gone on a five-game winning streak before losing to Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month, failed to score against Palace but Postecoglou believed that sticking to the rules and being consistent could get them back to winning ways.

“The players and everyone were disappointed with the way things went at Palace, both the performance and the result, but we have to get away from those reactions and try to atone for something,” Postecoglou said.

“Part of this process for us is to make sure that we stick to our principles in every match, regardless of what has happened in the past.”

Following Manchester United’s sacking of Erik Ten Hag, Postecoglou said he had “no job security” and was working hard to ensure Spurs were successful while he was there.

“I understand I won’t be here forever, but I’m working like I’m going to stay and I’m making decisions that will help us succeed as a club.

“If you deviate from this, the inevitable end will probably come sooner than you want,” he added.
