Supporting community engagement with MCC | News, sports, work

At Marshalltown Community College (MCC), we believe that education is more than just learning. We strive to create a vibrant and inclusive campus community where students can connect with peers, explore their interests, and develop valuable life skills. From academic clubs and organizations to community engagement initiatives, MCC offers students a wide range of opportunities to get involved and make a difference.

Every year, thousands of students – young and old – pass through our doors. By inviting the community to participate in events like the Pumpkin Jamboree, we not only create a more inclusive environment, but also strengthen the relationship between the university and the neighborhood. Our students have the opportunity to give back to the community that welcomes them so warmly each fall. We appreciate this and strive to build a sense of trust and encourage community members to seek educational opportunities and services at MCC.

Outside of the classroom, these activities offer students valuable experiences that encourage personal development. They provide students with the opportunity to interact with peers, faculty and staff while practicing positive communication, teamwork and time management. These experiences also help shape the overall student experience and increase the likelihood that students will return to MCC and earn their degrees.

In today’s digital age, it is more important than ever for students to develop strong interpersonal skills. By participating in on-campus activities, students can practice face-to-face interaction and improve their engagement with others.

At MCC, we strive to provide students with a well-rounded education that extends beyond the classroom. Our programs and services offer students opportunities to discover their leadership potential, develop their sense of identity, and create lasting partnerships and friendships.

Community involvement is an essential part of our mission at MCC. By encouraging students to get involved in clubs and organizations on campus, residence halls, sports teams, service learning, student leadership opportunities, work and study, and classroom experiences, we provide them with a variety of ways to contribute to their community and develop their skills.

Research has shown that people who feel a sense of belonging are more likely to succeed academically. At MCC, we strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel valued and connected. By participating in campus activities and getting involved in the community, students can build a solid foundation for their future success.

If you are a student or parent of an MCC student, we encourage you to get involved and participate in upcoming events. College is a journey beyond the classroom, and we believe that community engagement is a key element of a successful educational experience.
