A fatal motorcycle crash in Scioto County is under investigation

SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio – An Ironton motorcyclist was killed Tuesday night, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The accident, which was reported at 6:26 p.m., involved a motorcycle and a truck traveling in opposite directions.

Clinton Barnard, 33, was driving his 2000 Honda Goldwing northwest on SR-522 when he tried to pass another vehicle. Authorities say Barnard lost control of the vehicle and veered into the oncoming lane, where his motorcycle collided with a 2009 Freightliner truck traveling southeast.

A truck driven by 39-year-old Zachary Messer of McDermott struck Barnard’s motorcycle in the southeast lane. Authorities said Barnard died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash, with assistance from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Green Township Fire Department and the Scioto County Coroner’s Office

No charges have been filed in connection with the crash at this time.
