Eight people were murdered by hackers and 8 others were injured in the Kagadi attack

At least eight people have been confirmed dead and eight others taken to hospital with serious injuries after they were attacked by unknown assailants in Kagadi district in western Uganda on Tuesday evening, police and the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) said on Wednesday. .

“Preliminary information indicates that members of the new cult, the name of which has not yet been determined, descended on people, most of whom were their family members, and injured them with sharp objects, leading to their death and other injuries,” said Major Billal Katamba, Divisional Officer and Public Information Officer Shuuja following the 9pm attack at Muzizi-A village in Kyaterekera County.

According to Maj Katamba, as investigations continue, the UPDF, police and ISO are on the ground searching for the perpetrators.
In a separate statement, Albertina Regional Police spokesperson SP Julius Allan Hakiza identified the deceased as Boniface Rogers Nyirambe, Yokononia Isakara, 76: Kabuwere Norah, 64, Praise Muhindo, 7, Anitah Kabugho, 44, Masika Kabagenyi, 3, Baluku Ferdinandi, 13 years old and Olive Kabugo, 13.
“Eight other people were admitted to various clinics in Kyaterekera. A joint team of police officers led by DPC Kagadi Ampurira Kenneth and military personnel responded to the incident,” Sp Hakiza said.

According to him, two suspects, identified only as Baguma Obedi, 33, and David Munyirambe, 36, were also killed while attempting to attack security forces.
“We are investigating the circumstances of the incident, the motive for the attack remains unknown. We are appealing to the public for any information regarding this incident. Your cooperation is crucial to bring the perpetrators to justice,” added SP Hakiza.
