CRAWFORD COUNTY – A 30-year-old Crestline man was arrested Tuesday on assault charges after 15 bullet holes were found in a Whetstone Township home, according to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday morning, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident in the 1500 block of Olentangy Road in Whetstone Township, northwest of Galion.

The property owner reported that his house had been shot at several times. Officers found approximately 15 bullet holes in the residence.

Deputies secured the apartment and asked the State Bureau of Investigation for assistance in investigating the scene. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies and BCI remained on scene until approximately 11 p.m.

Authorities found several spent bullet casings outside the residence and recovered several bullets found inside the residence. According to the sheriff’s office, during the investigation, officers were able to obtain surveillance footage of the suspects who were inside the home during the shooting.

An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for Daniel P. Looney, 30, of Crestline. Looney was arrested without incident by Ontario police when deputies alerted them that Looney was under their jurisdiction.

Looney, whose address is listed on Bucyrus Municipal Court records as 1034 Bibich Court, was transported to the Crawford County Justice Center. No bond had been posted as of Wednesday morning, according to court records, which listed the charge as a second-degree felony.

Deputies also served a search warrant on Looney’s property, according to the sheriff’s department.

During the search, the officers located and seized firearms, ammunition and electronic devices. The sheriff’s office said deputies were assisted on scene by Crestline Police Department officers, the Crestline Fire Department and the Crawford County Dog Warden.

The case remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and a report will be submitted to the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of additional charges against those involved.
