The suspect in the ‘Hit and Run’ case who killed a toddler in Santa Maria has been identified

This is an update on a fatal traffic collision that occurred on 10/13/24 in the 600 block of West Cypress.

The suspect in this traffic collision has been identified as Federico Garcia Galvez, 35, of Santa Maria. Galvez is currently wanted for hit and run causing injury or death.

The deceased was identified as Rosalia Ortega, 1, of Santa Maria.

This case is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts or the collision is asked to contact Officer Robles at 805-929-3781, extension 2315.


Santa Maria police are investigating a traffic collision that resulted in the death of an infant

On 10/13/24 at 1:05 p.m., SMPD officers responded to 600 West Cypress for a call of a vehicle that had hit a 1-year-old child.

The child was transported to Marian Medical Center and, despite life-saving efforts, was pronounced dead.

SMPD’s Traffic Bureau responded and took control of the investigation, which is still ongoing.

The SMPD Traffic Bureau asks anyone with information to call 805-928-3781, extension 2315 for Officer Robles or extension 1355 for Officer Rhoads.
