Sudan: Women raped by RSF fighters in Gezira commit suicide – Human Rights

Human rights organizations and activists say that after being raped by paramilitary fighters during the brutal civil war raging in the country, several women have reportedly taken their own lives in Sudan’s central Gezira state.

These reports come after the United Nations accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces of heinous crimes, including mass killings, that took place in the state last week.

However, RSF rejected the recent UN report, blaming its fighters for the rise in sexual violence.

He says the accusations were not supported by evidence.

Since the conflict began in April 2023, a fierce power struggle between the army and the RSF has killed tens of thousands of people and forced more than 11 million people from their homes.
