A suspect who told Florida police officers to lock their doors because he liked to steal cars complied with his warning when he drove away in his squad car.

The brazen theft occurred when a Marion County Sheriff’s Office corporal responded to a suspicious incident in Ocala. WFTV-TV reports. At the scene, the man – identified as 41-year-old James Brady – told the corporal he had taken drugs and needed medical attention.

While asking for help, Brady also gave a strange warning.

“You better lock the door. I like stealing cars. Ask your boss about it,” he said.

Brady jumped up from his lying position on the grass and walked towards the police car. Once inside the vehicle, he was able to take off and lead officers on a chase.

The pursuit ended outside Ocala when the deputy performed a PIT maneuver on the suspect’s vehicle. Brady was arrested and sent to prison.
