A woman working at a hotel for asylum seekers was allegedly stabbed to death by an attacker armed with a screwdriver.

Rhiannon Skye Whyte, 27, died at the train station after leaving work on Sunday evening. After the attack, she was taken to hospital and died three days later.

The 18-year-old was arrested and later charged with murder.

Residents of the Park Inn by Radisson, near Walsall FC’s Bescot stadium in the West Mids, where Rhiannon worked, were moved from the hotel.

A source told The Sun: “We won’t take any chances. Residents were removed from the hotel where Rhiannon worked.”

As reported by The Sun, there was a “minor” argument at the hotel earlier over a package of cookies.

Rhiannon’s family paid tribute to her as a “loving daughter, compassionate sister, loving aunt, gracious granddaughter, beautiful niece, wonderful cousin and devoted friend.”

The family added: “You were the most selfless person, brave, quirky, funny and always available to anyone who needed it. There isn’t enough paper in the world to even start writing a tribute to you, but no one deserves it more.

Deng Chol Majek, 18, was charged with murder.

The family added: “You were the most selfless person, brave, quirky, funny and always available to anyone who needed it. There isn’t enough paper in the world to even start writing a tribute to you, but no one deserves it more.

“The strange thing about this devastating loss is that we now have to live without you, but how? If your short life teaches you anything, it’s to enjoy every moment with those you love, because tomorrow is never guaranteed.

“You are so strong, a warrior and no matter what happens, as a family we will always be united for you. We will love you and miss you, forever and ever.”

British Transport Police’s senior investigating officer responsible for the attack, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell, said: “Our specialist officers are supporting Rhiannon’s family and friends. Can we please respect their privacy. Our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.”

“I would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else to be involved.”
