Nadella’s total pay still increased to $79.1 million, a 63% increase from last year. He earns $2.5 million and received $71.2 million in Microsoft stock, mostly based on existing performance plans. The package is likely to make him one of the highest-paid executives in the world.

Nadella became Microsoft’s CEO in 2014, and since then the company’s stock price has increased more than tenfold, pushing from Apple AND Nvidia to the position of the most valuable business in the world.

His total compensation has since been worth more than $1 billion thanks to the company’s stock boom, although Microsoft last year said Nadella himself is not a billionaire.

“Since its board of directors appointed Nadella as its third-ever CEO in 2014, Microsoft has nearly tripled revenue to $245.1 billion, nearly quadrupled net income to $88.1 billion and more than quadrupled diluted earnings per share to 11 .80 dollars,” he added. Microsoft stated in its filing.

“In addition to another year of consistently strong financial results, Mr. Nadella and his leadership team have positioned Microsoft to continue to drive efficiencies in the coming years.”
