3-year-old injured after shooting in Orangeburg

ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) – A 3-year-old girl received temporary treatment after suffering a foot injury during a shooting in Orangeburg.

According to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), the unit responded to Marlboro Street on Tuesday for multiple reports of shots fired in the area.

According to the incident report, the girl’s father said he and his two children were watching TV and her mother was sleeping in the bedroom when the shots started.

Deputies said the 3-year-old received temporary treatment for a gunshot wound by Orangeburg County Emergency Medical Services and was taken to MUSC Orangeburg for further evaluation.

The father told deputies that when the shooting stopped, he immediately ran outside to identify the shooter, but didn’t see anything. He also said that he had no quarrels with anyone and was not aware of anyone who wanted to cause him or his family any harm.

The report stated that deputies found several shell casings, ranging from assault rifles to handguns, scattered throughout the home, leading to the residence and the roadway.

Deputies said the home suffered extensive damage to both the exterior and interior, estimated at approximately $5,000.

The case was turned over to the Orangeburg County Criminal Investigation Division.
