A Japanese tourist dies and 12 people are injured after a bus collides with a truck in Malaysia

A Japanese tourist was killed and 12 others injured when a tour bus hit the back of a truck on a highway Malaysia– one of the largest Japanese travel agencies reported on Friday.

JTB Corp. said the accident occurred on Thursday in the central Malaysian state of Perak as the bus was traveling from Penang to the Cameron Highlands, a popular tourist destination dotted with tea plantations.

One woman in her 70s died from her injuries, JTB president and CEO Eijiro Yamakita said at a press conference in Tokyo.

The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Service said three men and eight women were on the bus Japanall seniors, as well as the bus driver and local tour guide. It was said that all 13 victims were carried out on stretchers and taken to hospital after initial treatment on site.

Yamakita said some survivors suffered serious injuries. He said their exact health status was unknown and the causes of the crash were being investigated.
