Royal Oak doctor charged with allegedly illegally selling cancer drugs

A Royal Oak doctor accused of illegally selling more than $17 million worth of cancer drugs has been indicted.

Dr. Naveed Aslam, 51, of West Bloomfield, was charged with conspiracy to unlawfully sell or traffic in prescription drugs and 10 counts of unlawful sale or trafficking in prescription drugs, according to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District. from Michigan.

According to an executed arrest warrant filed in court on Thursday, Aslam was arrested on Thursday.

His lawyer, Daniel Dena, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.

The FBI, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Homeland Security Investigations and the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General jointly investigated Aslam’s case, according to the release.

According to the indictment filed in court on Thursday, Aslam allegedly collaborated with others to buy and sell expensive cancer drugs for profit with the intent to defraud and mislead.

Authorities said he earned more than $2.5 million thanks to this operation, carried out from the beginning of 2019 to August 2023.

Other people identified customers who wanted to buy prescription cancer drugs, and Aslam allegedly ordered the drugs from his medical practice’s supplier, Somerset Hematology and Oncology, PC, officials said.

The indictment states that Aslam allegedly sold drugs to his associates, who allegedly used their company to sell drugs to customers.
