Trial begins Tuesday for woman accused of leaving friend who fell from car and died – The Oakland Press

Jury selection will begin Oct. 29 in Oakland County Circuit Court for the trial of a woman accused of leaving an injured friend behind after she fell from a moving car and later died.

Kentia Fearn, 24, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a felony, and operating under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor, on June 3, 2023. The incident allegedly occurred outside the Coach House Apartments near Greenfield Road and Mt Vernon Street in Southfield.

Fearn’s friend, Mia Kanu, 23, of Southfield, was found in the roadway outside the apartment complex and taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where she died two days later.

According to her posthumousat the time of her death, Kanu was a student who planned to become a veterinarian. The obituary also said in part: “Mia dedicated her life to God, family and friends. To everyone she met, Mia was kind, loving, sweet and funny. She was a team leader in everything she did and was very active in playing on the volleyball team and in school activities.

Fearn’s pre-trial hearing is scheduled for October 28, the day before the trial.

Fearn of Wayne was released from jail on a $3,000 personal bond, which does not require cash or a surety bond. She faces up to five years in prison for her crime.

The case was assigned to Judge David Cohen.
