Michael Silver of The Athletic initially reported that the San Francisco 49ers were not expecting the safety Talanoa Hufanga return this season after tearing ligaments in his wrist. However, Hufanga is determined to showcase his style again this season.

Hufanga’s agent contacted Silver to refute the report, stating that the safety planned to return and star in the cast.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed reporters on Friday and confirmed that Hufanga does indeed intend to return this season. Safety remains in injured reserve (IR).

“I know he’s trying to come back this season,” Shanahan said. “That’s his plan. This is his hope. I know he has at least a few more weeks on IR and we’ll see how he feels after that and whether he can do it or not.”

Asked if Hufanga’s return this season is certain, Shanahan replied: “It’s not certain, but we hope it will happen and we kind of expect it, but it’s not certain.”

Kevin Gives did not go to IR

Defensive action Kevin Givesstruggling with a groin injury, he is one of three players excluded from Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Although he did not practice this week, Shanahan confirmed that the injury is not serious enough to warrant placing Gives on injured reserve.
