4 people dead as a result of SWAT operation in Cincinnati; identified victims

COLLEGE HILL, Ohio (WKRC) – Police on Thursday identified the victims and suspect involved in a SWAT operation in College Hill.

SWAT officers were called to a home in College Hill, where the bodies of three people were ultimately found.

Cincinnati police said a person was barricaded at a home on Springbrook Drive between Daly and Greenfield around 8 a.m. She learned that there was a man armed with a knife inside.

A few hours later, they managed to get into the house, where they found the bodies of three people. The fourth person apparently had self-inflicted stab wounds. This person is believed to have killed the other three.

Police identified three victims:

  • 78-year-old Patricia McCollum
  • 32-year-old DJ McCollum
  • 11-year-old Kaydence McCollum

The suspect was subsequently identified as 66-year-old Anthony Mathis. He was taken to the University of California Medical Center for self-inflicted stab wounds, where he died from his injuries.

Mathis is Patricia’s son-in-law. The other two victims involved in the stabbing were her adopted children.

Patricia, or Miss Pat as she was called, was a pillar of her community. She was the founder of Off The Streets. She also raised over 100 children, including seven whom she later adopted. Patricia taught at Beach Acres and earned a master’s degree in social work.

In addition, she also helped found The Holloway House and Rosemary’s Babies, a home for pregnant teens scheduled to open in November.

“She is a woman I would like to see pass away peacefully and lovingly. The way she lived her life,” Rosemary Oglesby-Henry said. “And even though she is not here, a part of her remains with the more than 200 children she serves. “It will be written in this facility and it will stay with me forever.”

“Cincinnati Public Schools is mourning the death of Parker Woods Montessori School student Kaydence McCollum. We are aware of this tragic event and we express our condolences and support to our family, friends and school community. The district’s emergency response team will be at school tomorrow to provide support to students,” Cincinnati Public Schools said in a statement.
