Air Taxis: The latest on electric flying cars that make the Jetsons’ dream come true – Page 2

Archer Aviation, a Santa Clara-based aerospace startup, unveiled a new electric plane Thursday that it says will be the basis for a future fleet of air taxis that will fly through cities and help alleviate traffic. But like most of these startups, the company wasn’t able to demonstrate that flying taxis do what they’re supposed to do: fly.

At Thursday’s event in Los Angeles, complete with dramatic lighting, stunning visuals and even a pair of drummers, the company unveiled a 12-rotor plane it called Maker. Weighing 1,508 kg (3,324 lb), the shiny silver vehicle looks like a hybrid of an airplane and a helicopter, with two wings equipped with six rotors, each extending from an egg-shaped fuselage.
