Lawrence announces new head coach | WTAQ News Discussion | 97.5 FM · 1360 AM

(LAWRENCE ATHLETICS) APPLETON, Wis. – Elizabeth Krug has been named the new head coach of the Lawrence University track and field programs, announced Director of Athletics Jason Imperati.
Krug assumes the newly created position and will work with Jason Fast, who has been the head cross country and track and field coach since 2009. Fast will be an assistant track and field coach working with distance runners and will continue to serve as head men’s and women’s cross country coach and associate director of track and field.
“I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Krug as our new head track and field coach,” said Imperati. “This exciting transition marks a significant milestone for our athletics program as we welcome a coach with an outstanding history of excellence in both coaching and student-athlete development. Under her leadership, we expect to see renewed energy and focus in our athletics program as she inspires our student-athletes to achieve their full potential. We believe her vision and expertise will not only enhance our competitive advantage, but also cultivate a culture of excellence that goes beyond the track.”
Krug travels to Lawrence from St. Norbert College, where she has been a coach since 2017. Krug was an assistant coach for the Green Knights for five seasons and has served as associate head coach for both track and cross country in recent years. the last three seasons.
“Lawrence was a very welcoming environment.” Krug he said. “I look forward to working with Coach (Shelby) Baldwin and Coach Fast and building on the momentum they have created over the last few years. The team has a lot of growth ahead of it, and our overall goal is to acquire student-athletes who will make an immediate impact and help us move the needle in the conference.
With his new coaching position, Fast can focus on distance runners in both cross country and track and oversee facilities as associate director of athletics, Imperative he said.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to Jason Fast’s hard work and dedication, which has been instrumental in the development of our program over the past 15 years,” Imperati said. “His unwavering commitment to excellence has laid a strong foundation, and we are excited to see how this new structure will further enhance the success of our athletics program.”
Krug helped the Green Knights win seven Midwestern Conference track and field championships. St. Norbert won the women’s indoor titles in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and the outdoor titles in 2018, 2019 and 2021. The men of St. Norbert also won the track title in 2021. Krug also helped St. Norbert won the women’s cyclocross championships in 2017 and 2018.
When Saint Norbert transferred to Northern Collegiate Athletics, the Green Knights continued to win. Women from St. Norbert have won the last three NACC indoor and outdoor conference championships (2022-24), while the men have won the last three indoor titles (2022-24) and two of the last three outdoor titles (2022, 2024). Saint’s women were also captured. Norbert NACC cyclocross championship titles in 2021 and 2023.
“We are very excited to add Elizabeth to our staff,” Fast said. “During the interview process, she demonstrated that she is a dynamic leader who can help our track and field team reach new heights. I am excited to work with her as we continue to take Viking athletics to the top of the Midwest Conference.”
Before joining the staff at St. Norbert, Krug for two years she worked as an assistant at the University of St. Lawrence in Canton, New York, where she competed in sprinting, hurdles, javelin and mixed events. Krug coached 11 individual Liberty League champions and coached an All-American in the 400-meter hurdles.
Krug, a talented athlete from Hendrix College in Arkansas, won the 2013 NCAA Division III heptathlon national championship. Her score of 5,074 points is the eighth-best result in Division III history. Krug was a four-time All-American in the heptathlon and was also a All-American in the pentathlon as a junior.
Lawrence will open the 2025 indoor track and field season in January.
