17-year-old JEE aspirant dies by suicide in Okhla, citing study pressure

In a tragic accident, a 17-year-old girl preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) allegedly jumped to her death from the roof of a seven-story building in southeast Delhi’s Okhla main market, citing immense exam pressure in her suicide note. According to the police, a PCR report was received at the Jamia Nagar police station late on Friday evening that a girl had jumped out of a nearby building.

In the suicide note she left behind, she cited the burden of studying and her inability to meet expectations as the reasons for her decision, a police official said.

He added that the girl, who recently cleared her Class 12 examinations, faced enormous academic pressure while preparing for the highly competitive engineering entrance exam. A case under Section 174 of the BNS has been registered and investigation is ongoing. Earlier, on October 23, a 21-year-old IIT Delhi student was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his hostel room.
