Tension at Hyderabad College after student’s death, family alleges negligence

There was tension at a private high school in Hyderabad’s Bachupally area on Monday after Anusha, a first-year Intermediate (Class 11) student, allegedly died by suicide in the hostel. The incident led to a confrontation between the family of the deceased and the university authorities, who protested against the transfer of her body without their prior knowledge, news agency IANS reported.

Anusha, who hails from Nagireddypalli village near Zaheerabad in Sangareddy district, returned to the hostel on Sunday after her Dussehra vacation. According to the university, she lost consciousness and was later shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where the family was later informed of her death by suicide. However, after reaching the shelter, her family members became furious when they learned that the body had already been shifted. They ransacked the office furniture and got into a heated argument with the university staff, accusing the management of negligence and demanding an explanation for moving the body without their consent, according to IANS.

A police official from Bachupally police station under Cyberabad Police Station stated that the student allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her hostel room on Sunday between 6.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The family expressed doubts about the circumstances of her death, calling on authorities to treat it as a case of death under suspicious conditions.

The police registered a case based on the family’s complaint and initiated an investigation to find out the reason behind the student’s extreme step. They assured that the investigation would cover all possible aspects. Reacting to the family’s allegations of delayed response, the police official mentioned that they waited for two hours before taking the body to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem and stressed that if any negligence was found against the university, action would be taken.
