A Collegedale officer who was seriously injured in an Oct. 13 motorcycle crash has died.

The Collegedale Police Department said Friday evening: “It is with deep sadness that Chief Sapp and the Collegedale Police Department announce the death of Corporal Enoch Hurd, who died this evening after sustaining serious injuries in a motorcycle accident that occurred on Sunday, October 13th.

“The accident occurred on the Cherohala Skyway, a mile from North Carolina, while Corporal Hurd was off-duty and riding with a group of friends.

“Corporal Hurd, 52 years old, has been a devoted father of three and a valued member of the Collegedale Police Department since 2009.”

Boss Jack Sapp said: “We are devastated by this loss. Enoch served our community with unwavering honor and integrity for 15 years. He was a friend to many, and his positive impact on our city and the lives he touched will always be remembered.”

Officials said: “In the face of tragedy, Corporal Hurd’s last heroic act was to give his life through organ donation. In tribute to this selfless decision, an Honorary March was organized – a solemn and touching ceremony that has become a strong tradition in many hospitals throughout the country. Family members, friends, hospital staff and other officers lined the hallways, creating a path of honor for Cpl.

“Through this incredible act of generosity, the legacy of Cpl. The Hurda will live on, a testament to the enduring power of human kindness and sacrifice.”
