JOHANNESBURG – Multiple injuries have been reported following a serious crash on the N1 southbound at the Gordon Road off-ramp.

Emergency services are currently on scene. Due to the seriousness of the accident, both lanes of the N1 at Gordon Road are currently closed.

According to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), the accident occurred after the truck driver lost control of the vehicle.

According to JMPD spokesman Superintendent Xolani Fihl, the accident occurred when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into the other lane.

“Initial reports indicate that a lorry traveling northbound on the N1 lost control at Gordon Road, veered into the center lane and collided with other vehicles. The truck then landed on the N1 south road.”

The truck is said to have collided with a Jaguar and a van. Multiple injuries have been reported, but no fatalities have been confirmed at this time.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area

JMPD also urged drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. Due to the seriousness of the accident, all lanes on the N1 southbound are closed as rescue operations continue.

“Traffic delays are expected to be significant and drivers are advised to remain patient and cautious when traveling through the affected area,” Fihla added.

10 people died in the N1 bus accident
