Labor MP Mike Amesbury claims he was involved in an ‘incident’ in Cheshire which left him ‘feeling unsafe’ | UK news

The Labor MP said he was involved in an incident that left him “feeling unsafe” and is cooperating with police.

Mike Amesbury, MP for Runcorn and Helsby, said he “felt unsafe in the street after a night out with friends” in Cheshire on Friday night.

“I contacted Cheshire Police myself this morning to report what happened during this incident,” he added.

“I will not be making any further public comment but will of course cooperate with any inquiries where required by Cheshire Police.

“I remain fully committed to working hard on behalf of the people of Runcorn and Helsby and I am determined to remain an open and accessible MP for our community.”

Footage of the incident shows Mr Amesbury standing over a man lying on the floor in Frodsham.

The MP tells the man, “You will never threaten me again,” pointing at him, and then says, “Yes, I am (an MP), yes, I am, and you will not threaten the MP again, right?” “

Cheshire Police said officers were called at 2.48am following reports of an assault in Frodsham.

“Caller reported being attacked by a male on Main Street. The investigation is ongoing.”

Labor added that it was aware of the incident and said Mr Amesbury “will cooperate with any inquiries” carried out by police.
