Members of the Grateful Dead mourn the death of Phil Lesh

Grateful Dead fans are in deep mourning. Yesterday (October 25), a representative of the band started their official conversation Instagram page to announce this founding bassist Phil Lesh died at the age of 84.

In tribute paid by online users to the surviving members of Lesha’s band Bob Weir, Mickey HartBill Kreutzmann and even the family of the deceased member Jerry Garcia wrote heartfelt messages.

“(Lesh) introduced me (and us) to the wonders of modern classical music, with its textures and developments, which we soon tried to incorporate into what we had to offer.” he wrote Bob Weir.

Mickey Hart talked about their sibling-like relationship: writing: “(Lesh was) larger than life, right in the middle of the band and in my ears, filling my brain with waves of bass.”

Bill Kreutzmann echoed Hart’s family sentiments: to write: “(Lesh) wasn’t just like a brother to me – he was like a big brother. Roommate. Teammate. Mentor.”

Jerry Garcia’s family expressed their condolences, writing: “We will miss his sharply dry humor, wry smiles and brilliant observations.”

In an initial joint statement, Mickey, Billy and Bobby found the words to share this devastating news with the world, writing: “Today we lost a brother. Our hearts and love go out to Jill Lesh, Brian and Grahame. Phil Lesh was irreplaceable. In one Phil Zone note you could hear and feel the birth of the world. His bass flowed like a river. It went where the muse took it. He was an explorer of interior and exterior space who happened to play the bass. He was a sailor of previously unknown musical worlds.”
