Assault rifle found in trash at bus stop in Lower Manhattan – NBC New York

Police sources say an MTA employee assigned to clean a Manhattan subway station came across an assault rifle just before his commute Friday afternoon.

The first discovery of a firearm was at Courtlandt Street station around 2:45 p.m

Sources say an MTA cleaner noticed an AM-15 rifle in a trash bin on the southbound platform. The rifle was empty; no magazines or bullets were found.

The police called the police station to recover and dispose of the weapon.

The New York Police Department said an investigation into the discovery of a gun on the subway is ongoing.
