Bareilly (UP), Oct 26 (PTI) A 42-year-old inmate lodged in Bareilly Central Jail No. 2 committed suicide by hanging himself on Saturday afternoon, police said.

According to the police, the trial prisoner identified as Shyamveer was a resident of Gurgaon Sirauli police station in Bareilly and had an argument with one of the village’s Prashants in June.

Prashant’s family filed a complaint at the Sirauli police station accusing Shyamveer of physical harm and assault, following which the police arrested him and sent him to Bareilly’s Central Jail 2, earlier known as Bareilly District Jail, on July 1.

The case was pending in court. Meanwhile, on Saturday at 3 p.m., Shyamveer’s wife Pushpa was informed over phone that her husband had committed suicide, following which his family members immediately reached the jail.

The deceased’s body was submitted for an autopsy.

Inmate Ratan Kumar said on October 20 that Shyamveer’s bail application was rejected by the high court, after which his wife came to meet him.

The guard said Shyamveer was tensed when he received the information that he would not be granted bail. He added that he was mentally stressed.

The guard said that on Saturday, Shyamveer hanged himself with his trouser string on a nail in the toilet. The body has been sent for autopsy and the case is being investigated, he added. PTI COR NAV KSS KSS
