Five people were injured, one in critical condition, by an electrical explosion in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Five people were injured, one of whom was transported in critical condition, by an electrical explosion in West Valley City Saturday morning.

West Valley City Fire told FOX 13 News the explosion occurred around 9:15 a.m. while the utility company was working on a transformer outside the building located at 4800 West 2400 South.

There were reports of a flash indicating an electrical explosion. However, there was no fire caused by the explosion before emergency crews arrived. Five injured people were working on the transformer at the time.

One person was transported to the University of Utah Burn Center in critical condition. Two others were taken to local hospitals in fair condition, while the other two were treated and released at the scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The Labor Inspectorate is also investigating the incident.
