Superintendent speaks out about the tragedy in St. Martinville

ST. MARTIN PARISH — After a tragic incident that occurred outside of a homecoming celebration in St. Martinville Senior High School, Superintendent Frederick Wiltz of St. Parish Schools. Martin expressed his deep sadness on behalf of the district and shared his thoughts and prayers with those affected and their families during this difficult time.

“This event has rocked our community,” Wiltz said, acknowledging the impact on students, staff and families. He assured residents that the safety and well-being of students and staff remain the district’s top priority. Law enforcement was already on site as part of standard event operations and responded immediately to bring the situation under control. The superintendent emphasized that the district is fully cooperating with the St. Paul Police Department. Martinville, which is overseeing the investigation. He advised anyone seeking further information on this case to contact local law enforcement directly.

Recognizing the concern and anxiety this event caused, especially among students and families, Wiltz encouraged students to talk about their worries with trusted adults. The district will also provide counseling services in the coming days to support students who need help coping with this tragedy.

Wiltz assured families that there is no indication of any ongoing threat to students or staff on district campuses in connection with this isolated incident. He thanked the community for its resilience and support, noting that the strength of St. Martinville plays a key role in healing and moving forward.
