Inter Miami’s Ian Fray suffered a meniscus injury and will require surgery

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – Inter Miami defender Ian Fray will undergo surgery to repair a meniscus injury he suffered in the first game of the Eastern Conference first-round series against Atlanta United, the team announced Saturday.

Fray has already overcome three anterior cruciate ligament tears in his career. The 22-year-old South Florida native entered the second half as a substitute and was injured in the final minutes. On Friday evening, Inter Miami won 2-1.

The team has not revealed the severity of the meniscus injury, but since it will require surgery, it seems likely that Fray will miss the rest of the season – which could extend until December 7 if Inter Miami qualifies for the MLS Cup final.

The second match of the Inter Miami-Atlanta best-of-seven series will take place on November 2 in Atlanta. Game 3, if necessary, will be played Nov. 9 in Fort Lauderdale.
